Travel

If you travel by plane, we recommend flying to Zurich Airport or Geneva Airport. There are direct train connections to Fribourg from both airports (c. 80-100 min). If you travel via Geneva, make sure that you don’t miss the beautiful view on Lake Geneva and the surrounding vineyards as you travel through the Lavaux region, a Unesco World Heritage Site!

Train reservations are usually not necessary in Switzerland, and tickets for your chosen trip are usually valid all-day, unless you buy a so-called “supersaver ticket,” which may occasionally be available for specific connections. Tickets can be bought at train stations, but we also recommend downloading the SBB mobile app, which provides easy access to regularly updated train and bus schedules and allows you to buy train and bus tickets for all public traffic services within Switzerland. You can also use the SBB website for this.

Fribourg itself is for the most part a walkable city, but there are also regular bus services within the city and to neighbouring towns offered by Transports publics Fribourgeois. Tickets can be bought at most bus stops or through the SBB mobile app.

Accommodation

We can recommend the following hotels, all of which are within walking distance (between 5-25 min) or within a 20 min bus route (Ibis)of the conference site (with the exception of Ibis Fribourg):

The hotels listed here are all to be found on the interactive map below, along with the conference venue and venue for the performance and reception.

For further information on accommodation, dining options, and leisure activities, also feel free to visit the Fribourg tourism office online

Accommodation Update:

It has come to our attention that there appears to be limited hotel availability in central Fribourg for the dates of the conference. This seems to be due in part to a music festival taking place in the city during the same period, which has increased demand for accommodation, and the hotels we originally listed are now looking quite full.

There are still some rooms available in Fribourg central, including at the Ibis Budget. In addition, Airbnb currently lists several options both in Fribourg and in the surrounding area. The conference venue is also easily accessible by public transport from nearby towns: for example, Marly is connected by direct bus (approximately 15 minutes to the conference venue), and Bern is around 25 minutes away by train. Additionally, the venue can be reached by public transportation within about 30 minutes or less from Givisiez, Belfaux, Tafers, and Düdingen. The bus stop for the conference venue, if you wish to look up connections on the SBB app, as above, is ‘Fribourg Industrie’.

Given the shortage of rooms in the city centre, we would also like to ask participants who live locally to consider commuting to the conference rather than booking accommodation, if this is feasible. If you are travelling from abroad, we recommend booking accommodation as soon as possible.

Conference Venue

The conference venue will be the Regina Mundi building (Rue P.-A. Faucigny 2, 1700 Fribourg).

Conference rooms and their locations will be made available upon publication of the full event programme
